Here are some books that can help you improve your grammar and writing:

 

                                                                                   

English Grammar in Use (3rd edition) by R. Murphy which can be used both in the classroom and as self reading grammar book covers all tenses, articles, modal verbs, prepositions, etc. It contains numerous exercises in each unit. It series also has elementary volume.

 

Communicate What You Mean by C.W. Pollock is another interesting book which covers different aspects of English grammar. The chapter on using “modal auxiliaries” is quite comprehensive and easy to understand.

 

Practical English Usage by Michael Swan is the most helpful grammar reference book which can be checked both according to the alphabetical order and the index! You can easily find out small details of grammar as well as some point about words’ usage. It is quite easy to use! Just check the definitions and examples it gives you!

 

A Practical English Grammar by J. Thompson and V. Martinet is another grammar reference book which is both listed according to topics in the content and index! At the beginning you will find the content by which you can find a grammatical topic you are interested in. Also you can find grammatical point by using the key words in the index!

 

Let’s Write English 1 by G. Wishon & J. Burks is a very helpful book on English sentence patterns. It gives general pattern on how to write English structures. It is incredibly useful for beginner writers.

 

Let’s Write English 2 by G. Wishon & J. Burks is the second volume of the first book which gives you some idea on how to write paragraphs and letters. The sample writing provided in the book as well as the explanations are really useful.

 

A course in Writing Letters for Iranian Students by Sara Rutledge Moridi is user friendly book which is especially written for Iranian EFL students. It gives general guidelines on how to write letters and gives a sample letter for each type.

 

A handbook of Commercial Correspondence by A. Ashley  is another helpful guidebook on writing business letters. This one is more detailed and technical. It includes a number of phrases used in business correspondence.
